Since the first Wine Route was created, the wineries of the Colchagua Valley have been pioneers in the wine industry. Sustainability has been no exception: we lead the way with a specialised committee and the push for the Sustainability Code.
Today, thanks to the support of the O'Higgins Regional Government, Corfo's Sustainability and Climate Change Agency, and Fundación Chile, we have the opportunity to be benchmarks once again. By measuring the water footprint, we can learn how much water we use, how we use it, its impacts, and how to optimise its use for a more efficient and responsible management of this resource — critical to our activity.
The new water calculator for the Colchagua Valley wine sector will be key to this challenge, especially amid growing water scarcity. It will be available to every winery in the valley, allowing each one to measure and improve its water management.
